KARA

Kara was my roommate for a few months. She was an occupational therapy student in Philadelphia visiting Baltimore for a rotation at Johns Hopkins. We bonded over our love for the Eagles.

We chatted about my TATT2U series and so I asked her if she had any ink. She informed me of a few tattoos and showed me where they were. And then she said she had one more that most of her friends don’t know about. It was supposed to fade after a few months, but a couple of years later it remains.

I was stunned to see her lower lip tagged with the word, VEGAN. We went to work on her pose - using my kitchen along with my new knife that I bought in Okinawa, Japan. I put up plastic behind her to give a Dexter like look. Timing the tossing of the vegetables without an assistant turned out to be the most difficult part of the shoot.
