BMA: OPTION 1
The photos in this series represent current icons who have had decades of influence in the Baltimore music scene. Caleb Stine who represents the folk, singer-songwriter and Americana sound, Eze Jackson who delivers hip-hop and R&B, and Landis Expandis who brings rock, electronic grooves, and DJ dance skills to the city. As a documentary style portrait photographer, I aim to capture artists in their element. Caleb Stine’s portrait is from a music video shoot inside his garage studio with a painting he created in the background. Eze Jackson’s image is from a performance at WTMD’s First Thursdays Concert Series and he wears a Baltimore neighborhood t-shirt. Landis Expandis is captured performing under his most recent alias, a trio named Landis, Larry, and Harry and is posed with his newly acquired cane as he recovers from a life-threatening health issue.
BMA: OPTION 2
The photos in this series represent the range of DIY performance art in Baltimore. Playing With Fire was captured in the Wyman Park Dell during a Secret Circus event done under the cover of night. The fire artist sang an a cappella version of Bob Dylan's Masters of War to a silenced crowd. Strutscape is a photo captured during the making of a music video by local band Patterson Trash in the Charles Village neighborhood. The song celebrates the release of energy in the streets after the COVID-19 shutdown. Over a hundred friends of the band showed up to participate in the video production that ended in a live concert at the 26th Street Green park. Ski Caps is a photograph of a playful moment between an open mic musician outside of The Depot in Station North and a streetwise regular in the community. The Juggler freezes a moment in time at Protean Books and Records shop in Federal Hill during a Matt Pless music video production.
